Regarded as Hindi Cinema’s greatest Screenwriters and noted for the best Indian Screenwriters, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, were the first to achieve the star status. They became the most successful Screenwriters of all time.

They worked from 1971- 1987, and wrote 24 films together, which were commercially and critically successful films. Out of the 24 films, twenty-two were Hindi films and two were Kannada films. While working together, Salim Khan was largely responsible for developing the stories and characters, which were considered unconventional at the time, while Javed Akhtar was largely responsible for writing the dialogues.

A significant departure from the romance films that dominated the Bollywood Industry, was because of this duo. They pioneered cultural phenomenon such as “angry young man” character archetype and the masala films which were a blockbuster. Their films launched many now prominent faces, and one of them is Amitabh Bachchan and Rajnikanth.
