Gol Maal

Gol Maal is a 1979 film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and produced by Mukherjee and N.C. Sippy. It is one of the best comedy films of that time.  The film had won several awards and was praised by the people. This film was also remade in few other languages.

Amol Palekar, who was playing the role of Ramprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma is a character who had the knowledge of all the sports and was fond of music along with accounting. But as the story moves further he has to play a part of not knowing anything other than accounting to get the job. This was the foundation of his career, lies and also the beginning of hilarious situations. He had to play two parts; one with the moustache, who wears kurta-paijama and is a ideal boy in the eyes of Bhawani (his boss). Where else the other one was without a moustache, wears all the bright colours and is interested in music and sports. The role switch is something which brings a laughter on everyone’s face.

Other characters who were just made up because of Ramprasad’s false story; Lakshmanprasad Sharma, his mother and his mother’s twin sister also added to the comedy in the film. Manju Singh playing the role of his sister is someone I truely adored, where else Bindiya Goswami playing the role of Urmila is someone without whom the story would have been incomplete. Other than the characters there were a lot of special appearances by Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Rekha, Zeenat Aman, Lata Mangeshkar and Aruna Irana playing themselves on the screen.

Over all its a fun film to watch with great comic timing, added up with other emotions in it. Friendship, maternal feelings, bond between brother and sister, boss and his employees come together to make it a fun mess up (Gol Maal) to watch.
